Weather, language, and a welcome that isn’t trying.

Ireland, as you are

Ireland is one diagonal cut across the island — Dublin’s literary east, a spa estate in Wexford, the harbour light of Kinsale, the Kerry peninsulas, then up the Atlantic coast to Galway and Connemara. Five anchor towns, two nights in every one. No transfer hotels, no single-night stops, no rushing.

The thread I care most about is the storytelling. Ireland is often sold as castles and shamrocks, and that isn’t the country. It’s weather, language, centuries of exile and return, and a queer cultural history that runs from Oscar Wilde’s Merrion Square to the marriage referendum of 2015. We open in Dublin with a private queer history walk that sets the lens, and from there we let the land and the food do the work.

You travel with a private driver-guide who knows which side of each valley is the good one. It suits people who would rather have a long meal than a long drive: mornings without a hurry, afternoons that earn themselves, evenings that turn into long ones.

Is Ireland welcoming for gay travelers?

Yes — and with some history behind it. In 2015 Ireland became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote. What you feel travelling there is quieter than that headline: a room that turns toward you when you walk in, conversations that start with strangers and finish hours later. The welcome is warm because nobody is working at it.

When to go, and for how long

The season runs from May and June through September and October, when the light is long and the Atlantic is at its most generous. Nine to eleven nights is what the route needs if every stop is going to get its two nights. Trips start from $8,625 per person, flights not included, based on double occupancy.
