Positano at sunset on the Amalfi Coast, Italy

A free guide from Gay Up Travel

The Curator’s Edit: Italy

Which Italy is yours? Six trips I plan for gay travelers, and how to tell which one is yours. Free, in your inbox within a minute.

What’s inside

Italy isn’t one trip. Rome, Florence and Venice in ten days is one. A week in Puglia, one farmhouse and the sea every day, is a completely different one. This guide helps you tell them apart before you book anything.

  • A page to choose, and the three mistakes I see Americans make in Italy every year.
  • Six journeys, two pages each: who each one is for, the day I’d keep, and where you’d sleep.
  • The honest picture of Italy for gay travelers today, as a couple, on your own or with friends.
  • The queer layer of every region, from Hadrian’s Rome to the Palermo of 1980.

About the curator

Francesco Mevoli, founder of Gay Up Travel

I’m Italian, I live between the Veneto and Puglia, and I founded Gay Up Travel in 2021 to plan the kind of trips I’d want to take myself: private, unhurried, and built around the people traveling.

GUT is a tailor-made travel company for gay men, mostly in Italy and across Europe. No catalog, no group departures. One conversation, one trip at a time. Every trip in the guide is one I plan myself, with two or three bases, houses chosen for the welcome, and a driver instead of a rental car. If you’d rather skip the guide, tell me about your trip and I’ll show you how it works.
